There are a multitude of different timeshare exchange services available, and most of them require you to own a timeshare prior to joining. Some of them, like RCI and II for example, will also allow you to purchase points without owning a timeshare and use those points to book the week(s) of your choice. For some this may be a better option because it will allow you direct access to the highly coveted Redweek timeshares without having to purchase an expensive timeshare directly from the resort.
